Laredo is a city in Texas, situated on the north bank of the Rio Grande, directly across from Nuevo Laredo in Tamaulipas, Mexico. Known for its rich history and cultural fusion, Laredo is the county seat of Webb County and is one of the oldest crossing points along the U.S.-Mexico border. Founded in 1755, it was originally part of the Spanish colony of Nuevo Santander. The city played a pivotal role in the short-lived Republic of the Rio Grande in 1840, with its historic capital building still preserved today as a museum.
