Île de Clipperton, a remote atoll in the eastern Pacific Ocean, is an overseas possession of France. Uninhabited and located about 1,080 km southwest of Mexico, it covers roughly 6 km². The island features a coral reef enclosing a central lagoon and lacks natural freshwater sources. Historically, it was visited by explorers and guano miners in the 19th century.
